Strategic holds 100% interests in 13 properties that are known or suspected to host porphyry-style mineralization. It also holds royalty interests in two properties where National Instrument 43-101 compliant resources are reported: Logtung (Northern Dancer) and Casino.
Porphyry deposits occur in a belt that extends up the Cordillera on the western margin of North and South America, extending from Chile to Alaska. Deposits of this belt host some of the largest mines in the world. The deposits can be divided into three main categories:
- Calc-alkaline -- Copper-molybdenum ± gold ± silver
- Alkaline -- Copper-gold ± molybdenum
- Lithophile -- Molybdenum ± tungsten
All porphyry deposits are related to intrusive activity, which in the Cordillera is mostly Mesozoic or Tertiary in age. Mineralization occurs as veins, fracture filling stockwork and/or disseminations within plutons or adjacent wall rocks. Mines of this type normally process moderate to low grade mineralization that is extracted from large open pits.
In 2010, Strategic plans to drill at five of its porphyry prospects: GK, Nikki, Mars, Vanderhoof, and Buzz. It also intends to fund surface work at four other porphyry properties, and expects work to be done at Logtung, Casino and Timber, with funding coming from other parties.
